Izembek Lodge was started in 1998 by Al Spalinger, a retired Alaska Fish and Game biologist. Drawn to Izembek Lagoon and the surrounding area by brant and goose hunting opportunities and large populations of salmon and ptarmigan, Al wanted a place to stay in Cold Bay while pursuing game. A master carpenter and cabinet maker, Al built the lodge himself. Izembek Lodge grew to accommodate up to 12 guests. The Lodge was run by Al and his wife, Barb, and offers warm, comfortable accommodation, good food, and friendly companionship.

In 2021, Al and Barb sold Izembek Lodge to a partnership of 3 hunters, who are all active or retired wildlife biologists. The new owners continue Al and Barb’s legacy of a passion for hunting and fishing and for hosting guests who become friends. Join us in Cold Bay for an adventure of a lifetime.
