Izembek Lodge Equipment List

The temperature in the Cold Bay region normally ranges from 30 degrees to 60 degrees, sometimes we get temperatures in the 20s late in the season.  It is often windy with frequent rain.

We recommend the following items:

  • Hunting/fishing license and stamps (duck stamps not always available in Cold Bay)
  • Chest waders – we recommend high quality breathable waders.
  • Waterproof hiking boots or rubber boots such as Muck Boots or Xtra Toughs
  • Camera and extra batteries
  • Binoculars
  • Ice chest – for taking home game and fish
  • Waterproof camo jacket
  • Waterproof gloves
  • Warm fleece hat
  • Base layer like polypropylene or equivalent
  • Warms socks
  • Shotgun and ammunition (steel #2’s or BB’s for brant and cacklers; steel #2’s or #4’s for ducks; #6 steel or lead for ptarmigan)
  • Headlamp
  • Fly rod and gear if fly fishing
  • Spinning rod with 8-10 lb test for salmon. Spinners with pink body, beads, or eggs under a bobber are commonly used
  • House slippers for inside the lodge
